My Labor Day Weekend! Part I

Hey y’all! Sorry for the missing posts this weekend, but I was very busy and had no time to blog!

Friday was my birthday, and Shane and I spent the majority of it driving down to Florida to spend the long weekend with friends and family.

I had a great time serenading him with Melissa Etheridge songs in my “microphone”.

We got to Jacksonville and went straight to my best friend’s house. I really wanted to see SHark Night 3-D. I know, I know. It looks like a cheap, pointless horror movie with no depth or feeling. And it so was. It was AWESOME!!

I mean, I figured I already won’t go into the ocean because of sharks, why not make that lakes, also! <3

Nah, seriously, I’m obsessed with sharks, and I can’t watch scary movies, unless they are animal ones. Ghosts, demons, paranormal, ect I can’t handle. Give me sharks, crocodiles, piranhas, and anacondas any day. So I got my boyfriend and my best friend to go sit through this, also!

DSC00796

It was fantastical. I mean, the acting, CGI, plot, and gore were all terrible and fake looking. But the 3-D was sick. Ellie and I jumped so many times, and once I even bit Shane. There’s something to be said about the impact of a great white jumping out of the screen at you. I left the movie with my heart pounding and my face laughing hysterically. I’d go again in a heartbeat.

I recommend it to anyone. Just don’t expect the sharks to look real, or the acting to be convincing, or the story to make a whole bunch of sense. Best worst movie EVER!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the rest of my wonderful weekend. Love y’all!

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend! Mine was super stressful, and I'm glad it's over. Between my disaster of a (future) bedroom, and my terror of a seven year old BabyBro (he is still adjusting to Sister being home, and it's not been the most pleasant of experiences... think lots of slamming doors and kicking walls...), I managed to wake up today in a fairly great mood!

I am way behind on the bedroom, but I took today off anyways. Mom and I went to see the new Pirates of the Carribbean movie while Dad and BabyBro went to see Kung Fu Panda 2. I wore a cute new outfit I bought the other day. I needed a day not covered in dry-wall dust or paint. Desperately.

I thought the Pirates movie was not that great. Jack Sparrow wasn't as fun as he usually is, and I have never been a huge Penelope Cruz fan. However, I thought the mermaid parts were sweet. I love mermaids, though.. Haha. I am thinking of being a mermaid with my godbaby for Halloween. I think a scary mermaid would be fun. :) I'd have to figure out how to do the costume. Any suggestions?!

I didn't go see my Timmy Tebow today, which makes me kind of sad. I found out at like 11:00 last night that you needed a ticket to get a book signed, and they were all out. Boo. But I figure the man is from Jacksonville, so I'm sure he'll be back. I'll meet him someday. I. Will. Meet. Him. Haha. Not to sound like a stalker or anything...

Came home and played canasta with my mama. My grandmother usually plays with us, too, but she was reading. I love canasta. I swear I'm 24 going on 83. I love Bingo, slippers (see below...), canasta, yelling at kids to get out of my garden, crocheting... It's pretty awesome. My friend Anthony and I chat about growing old all the time. We can't wait. Haha. Now I just need to knit him that sweater....

Sophia informed me there are issues commenting on my blog. This makes me sad, so I'll probably be contacting Blogger about this. I've had so many issues since this new update. I hate it! Kind of makes me wish I had started with Wordpress, but it's too late now. Oh well.

I take my SATs on Saturday, and right after I head up to NC to get my furniture and stuff. Ah. A bed. It will be so nice to have my own bed again. Well, I'm off to stalk (er... read) your blogs now! I hope you can comment!!!

Also, this was my first Memorial Day as a veteran, and I have to say, it was wonderful!

Trader Joe's and New Shoes...

Well, hello, Blogger. Long time, no see.

Hmph. Well that was annoying. But yesterday was a pretty annoying day all around, so I guess it was just par for the course. It started out pretty nice, though. I went exploring, and the goal for the day was to hunt down a Trader Joe's. I was hoping they would have Kombucha (Is that how you spell it?!) but alas, they didn't. I was also searching for some sulfate-free body wash. I have been looking for some of this for a few days now, since I have a serious problem with break outs (TMI, I know.), and was told sulfates can cause that. I'm not really what you would call a "hippie", so I wasn't really looking for anything vegan or such, just sulfate free.

Pssssh, talk about impossible. I couldn't find anything. So I went to the one place I knew I could find some... A health food natural store. And sure enough, they had quite a selection! I ended up going with TraderJoe's brand Tea Tree Tingle body wash. It wasn't very expensive, so that was a plus!

Trader Joe's didn't have my Kombucha, though, so I asked the clerk where I could find some, and she sent me to another natural foods store called Heritage, and they had it! Woot! They had a whole bunch of flavors, but at $4 a pop, I only got three. I got the Trilogy, Guava, and Strawberry. So far I have only tried the Trilogy, and I loved it. It was not like anything I've ever had, but it was really yummy.
Then I went to the Exchange and went searching for some summer Clinique products, and picked up some bronzer and some sunless tanner. I am nervous to use the sunless tanner yet, though, since I'm scared to do it alone. So Ellie is going to be blessed enough to lend a girl a hand. Or two. :) Lucky her!
The rest of the day was downhill, but I did pick up the movie No Strings Attached with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, it was wonderful. I seriously loved it, and am glad I purchased it. I thought it was really clever, funny, and sweet. I highly recommend watching this movie. I also started what will be a blanket while watching this movie. It just kind of looks like a snake right now, though...

Today was better, I spent the morning at the doctors, getting even closer to getting out of the Navy! Next Friday, y'all! I was told today I have perfect cholesterol. The doctor told me my numbers pretty much couldn't get any better. That made me feel pretty great. :)

I came back and took a pretty stellar nap, and then went in search of new running shoes. I needed some new ones, and wanted to get them in time to break them in before my race next weekend. I initially went thinking I was going to get Nike Free's, but I actually didn't like them. They were super-duper light, and I loved that, but they were weird feeling on the tops of my toes, like the seam was cutting into my skin. So I figured if they felt uncomfortable just walking around the store, they would feel even worse running a few miles.

So I ended up getting a different type of Nike and I love them soooooo much. I ran (slash walked) 3.25 miles today, and it was like running on clouds. I am a super big fan. It doesn't hurt that they are really cute, too! :) I also bought some Nike socks (since my running socks are getting kinda threadbare..) and i noticed they have 'L' and 'R' on the sock. Which I thought was funny. So I snapped a picture, sorry it came out kinda dark.... Haha.

Then I went and sat in the sauna and read my Carrots 'N' Cake book. Sooooo relaxing.

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend! It's my last one in the Navy, so we'll see how it goes!

Africa is a Pretty Close Country

So, I have a horrible confession to make. I'm currently drinking a Cherry Coke. Oh yeah. Only a can, so not it's not exactly a 2 liter, but I left my water bottle somewhere (I think the gym), and I just caved. Whoops. Oh well. Nobody is perfect. :)

So I went shopping today (I know. I have a problem. Once I don't have like 23 hours and 45 minutes to myself every single day, it will be easier to find other things to do with my time.) and I found some super cute business outfits, but didn't buy them. I would have if I had known for sure I would be working in a place that requires business attire, but I have no clue. So I didn't want to spend the money, even though I love business suits so hard. :)

I did buy some cute accessories at Claire's though. I haven't gotten accessories in a while, so I bought some. Most were on sale. I'll try to take photos of them as I wear them. I got a really neat bracelet with the lyrics from "All You Need Is Love" on it, though it jangles, so I have to get used to that. Haha.

I finally went and saw Something Borrowed, and I loved it. I'm so glad I didn't judge by the book. The movie made the characters seem so much more human, if that makes sense. In the book, the main character was annoying at how she didn't even feel guilty for sleeping with her best friend's fiance. And it was a full blown, months long affair. The movie was much more realistic, and changed alot to make the characters more likeable, honestly.

As I was leaving the theater, I was behind this group of girls, who were talking about the books, and they pretty much gave the whole story away for the sequel. So I won't be reading that.... Haha. I was kind of annoyed, but since I really hated the first book, I wasn't really planning on reading it anyways.

I was leaving the gym today, and was walking behind these two girls who were talking about how far away they parked, and used the term 'BFE', which I'm sure y'all know means Butt-F*** Egypt. Then they got into the discussion about how one girl's husband always says he "Parks in Africa", and then this is where the conversation went.
First Girl: "But Africa isn't even the farthest country away."
Second Girl: "I know, Egypt is much farther away than Africa."

Wow. And we wonder what happens when America neglects the school system. One, Africa is a continent, not a country. And Two, Egypt is a country in the continent Africa. Not that I needed to explain that to y'all. But still. I was so annoyed.

I guess I just didn't have any luck walking behind groups of girls today. Haha. I'm going to Busch Gardens on Saturday, and I'm super excited. In case you haven't been able to tell, I'm obsessed with theme parks. They rock my socks off.

Ah! I almost forgot. I saw the trailer for the last Harry Potter movie. I had chills, goosebumps, and I almost was in tears. Harry Potter is pretty much my dream life, and I'm so excited for this movie it's absurd. I'm actually dreading it, also, because then it's over. And I don't want it to be over! :( I love it too much! I was the same way with the book. (Not that it stopped me from going out at midnight and picking it up, and then locking myself in my room until it was done. Seriously. I fell asleep with the book open on my chest, and woke up a few hours later just to continue reading.)
Anyways. I'll leave y'all with this lovely photo of me post gym/sauna. The girls in the locker room probably think I'm insane for taking pictures in the bathroom mirror. Not that I care. :)

Fast Five Friday

Hey y'all!

Today was super-duper fun. Really laid back, but fun regardless!

Yesterday (sorry for no postage!) I finished up TAP class, and learned a whole bunch more useful wonderful information, so I'd deem the whole class a raving success! This morning was my 9 am 'show my face' time and then I was done with work for the day. My roommate had some stuff to do at the other base, so I offered to drive. I ended up reading in the car all morning (there was a wonderful breeze, and I was in Katy heaven.), and I finally finished Something Borrowed.

Ugh. I was displeased almost from like page 5. The trailer for the movie (which is what made me want to read the book in the first place!) looks super adorable, and like a girl who is genuinely caught between a man and her best friend and cares deeply for both. The book is about a selfish, shallow, self-victimizing woman (Rachel) who thinks because her best friend (Darcy) is self-centered (which she is) and that she has had a very "lucky life" and is prettier and more successful and because Rachel has let Darcy walk all over her for her entire life, that is okay to have a full blown affair with Darcy's fiance.

She doesn't even feel guilty. She just acts like because Darcy is selfish and self-absorbed, it's ok. I'm thinking, if she's such a witch, then don't be her friend. Anyways, it really kind of annoyed me. I still want to see the movie, because the movie makes it seem better, and definitely makes Rachel seem like a nicer person. So I recommend watching the movie, and not reading the book. I'm hoping I'm not just as disappointed with the movie.

Now. A movie I was super not disappointed to see? Fast Five. Holy cow. I love, love, love it. It's my favorite out all of them. (The only one I didn't like was number 2, though.) It was funny and entertaining, and actually kind of heart-felt. One thing it was not was realistic though. So if you are looking for a serious, could be happening right at this moment movie, please don't waste your money only to complain later about much it sucks. :) (That's a pet peeve of mine.)

Other than that, my day was spent playing Lego Harry Potter. Yup. I'm an XBOX geek and darn proud of it. :)

Off to play more XBOX and watch some Desperate Housewives. Thank you Netflix! I hope everyone has a great weekend! Tomorrow I'll take pictures, promise!

Got a Serious Case of the...

....Mondays.

I mean, for real. Maybe because it was a lack of sleep last night. (I always sleep terribly the night before an important appointment, or what not.) Maybe it's because even though TAP class was full of super helpful information, it was a long day of lectures with a very early start. Needless to say, I went home and took a nap fully expecting to go for a run and start Jillian Michael's Six Week Six Pack today. Did not happen.I started the 6-Pack video, but I quickly lost (can you lose something you never had?!) the motivation to continue.

So I'm just chalking it up to being tired and slightly irritated. I am irritated because I went on Thursday to start the internet in my room, and they said it would be hooked up by Monday at the latest. It's Monday and I'm still using the common area. I'm even more upset because all the have to do is authorize the connection, since we have the service running into the jacks at all times. But I didn't get home until after they were closed, so I have to call tomorrow. I'm not paying for a service I'm not receiving. Ugh.

So here I am in the common area in my pajamas. Yup. That's right. I am in bright purple/teal (one of my favorite color combos!) plaid pajama pants. That makes me smile. :)

TAP class was really nice actually. The facilitator in the morning was wonderful, full of really helpful information about the job market and things we need to be focused on and resources available to us. I was very impressed, and it even made me less annoyed to have such an early wake-up call. Haha. The afternoon facilitator wasn't as wonderful. The room was not well air-conditioned, very stuffy, and right after lunch, and I felt she spent too much time on personal stories than helpful information. Which wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't spending more energy trying to stay awake than listen and absorb the information. I wasn't the only one who felt this way either. So I wasn't nearly as impressed with he afternoon portion.

Tomorrow it starts at 8 am, so that is much better for me. :) Still might have to grab a Starbucks, though. I plan on getting a early start on bed tonight, though, so I should be much more rested tomorrow. Regardless I am exercising. A nice run is exactly what the doctor ordered. I wish I hadn't left my yoga DVD at my best friend's in Florida. I was VERY fond of it. Haha. Oh well, it's just a month.

I'm currently reading The Friday Night Knitting Club, and so far I am very impressed with it. :) I also really want to start Something Borrowed before the movie comes out, since the trailer for it looked really good. I really like Ginnifer Goodwin, and John Krasinski. So I'll probably start that as soon as I finish with TFNKC.

That's about all for now. :) I'm trying to think of my Three Tangent Tuesday facts, since that will back tomorrow! :) I hope everyone has a great day! And if you haven't already, don't forget to 'like' Katy Tackles Life on FB, and follow on Twitter! :) The buttons are on the side!
